Postgraduate Studies in Neuroscience and Brain Health
Beschrijving
Are you passionate about neurosciences and do you want to learn more about brain health, research methods in neuroscience, neuromodulation and the newest advances in the field of neuroscience?
Do you want to have more knowledge about the healthy and the diseased brain in order to be better at your job (e.g. industry, health institutions, research centre)? Or do you want to be prepared for doctoral research in neuroscience?
The social relevance of a neuroscience education is clear; 43% of the population will ever come into contact with a neurological disorder. Neurological disorders are the main drivers of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and the costs caused by them are the sum of the costs of all neoplastic and cardiovascular diseases combined. Brain health is a relatively new concept and concerns the possible prevention of brain disorders. Brain research is therefore of great importance. It is evident that education within this discipline is the first necessary step and this postgraduate degree will be able to contribute to this. The training will also serve as an ideal preparation or supplement for doctoral research in neuroscience.
Programma
This postgraduate study consists of 30 credits (ECTS). Together, the following modules take place during 1 academic year (September to March). Find a more detailed course overview here.
- The healthy brain (1st semester, 9 ECTS)
- The diseased brain (2nd semester, 4 ECTS)
- Research methods in neuroscience (1st semester, 5 ECTS)
- Neuromodulation (2nd semester, 3 ECTS)
- Neuropharmacology (2nd semester, 3 ECTS)
- Applied neurosciences (full academic year, 6 ECTS)
At the end of the course you will:
- have knowledge about the healthy brain (neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, neuropathology)
- have knowledge about the most prioritized neurologic diseases
- have knowledge about the functioning of memory, perception and emotion, and consciousness
- have insight in the healthy brain: how does nutrition, sleep and physical activity influence our brain (functioning) and how can we keep our brain healthy?
- have knowledge about treatment methods and efficacy for several neurologic diseases
- have knowledge about state-of-the-art diagnostic methods and their practical use.
- have knowledge about neuro economy and neuromarketing, neuro science and AI, neurotechnology, contextual influencing factors, neuro ethics/philosophy
